TESTING FIMO DEKO GEL AND TRANSLUCENT LIQUID SCULPEY It is always fun to test new materials, especially in the area of polymer clay. My aim is to understand all the PC material better, creating new concept of using PC and testing them. I am referring to liquid polymer clay, two of the well known brands in the market are FIMO DEKO GEL and TRANSLUCENT LIQUID SCULPEY. Although, TLS is around for at least 2 years and FD Gel is about a year, it is still quite new to most PC clayers. Both are great PC mediums that will enhance our creativity in the usage of polymer clay. In fact, both can compliment or intermix together for the usage in any PC clay creation, eg. polymerized tissue for scale modeling of clothing. Below are some of my test and usage of liquid polymer clay.
Comparing the two Liquid PC, Fimo Deko Gel is translucent clear before baking and the finishing is transparent gloss or semi gloss after baking. It also depends on the type of materials that is added to the Liquid PC. metallic powder, glass paint (Marabu Decorglas), etc. Deko Gel is more flexible, viscosity is thin but poor in laser copy transfer. Somehow the transfer stick very tightly onto the photocopy image. There are many application in using FD Gel, since it is transparent you can use it to varnish the PC clay model or jewelry, gluing PC parts to part, creating unusual bookmark to freeze nature, miniature food, landscaping, diorama and many others, curing the liquid to show someone drinking water with a glass cup, etc. As for Translucent Liquid Sculpey, unbaked liquid clay is translucent white, after baking the finishing is matt or opaque depending on what is added to the TLS refer to above image. Viscosity is thick, expands after baking due to tiny air bubbles. For the purpose of testing TLS I had created a flat water patch, after about a month I notice my finish product warp and curl a little. TLS can also be use as glue to joint bake or unbaked polymer clay products. The TLS fare better in transfer of image from laser photocopy removing the transfer is easy, use for jewelry making, artcoaster, diorama mixed with acrylic paint. CONCLUSION In my opinion, both liquid Polymer Clay are great creative mediums, the advantage of FIMO DEKO GEL over TRANSLUCENT LIQUID SCULPEY, is transparent, very flexible and strong. APPLICATION OF FIMO LACQUER ON FIMO DEKO GEL CREATES WATER EFFECT COMPARISON TEST BETWEEN TRANSLUCENT LIQUID SCULPEY, KATO LIQUID POLYCLAY AND FIMO DEKO GEL. Which is the clearest?
