| THE
130ºC TEMPERATURE TEST OF BAKING THE STYROFOAM |
The test is to determine
whether it is safe to bake Styrofoam in the convection oven.
At the temperature of 130ºC, baking from 15 to 45 minute.
Will it burn the Styrofoam and produce toxic fumes?
Cut a piece of foam approximately
40 mm x 40 mm x 20 mm thk. ( 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches x 3/4 inch
thk.)
| To monitor
the consistency of the oven temperature I placed a thermometer
into the convection oven with the Styrofoam. |
| Setting
the oven temperature control to 130ºC and closed the oven
door. |
| After
the full 15 minutes baking, at the temperature of 130ºC,
the foam had shrunk an folded a little. |
| Continue
the process of baking another full 30 minutes at the same temperature
of 130ºC. |
Observing it after
the full 30 minutes of baking the Styrofoam had shrunk, no detection
of any smell from the process of baking. you will notice that
the temperature had risen to 140ºC.
Testing with full 45 minutes
at 130º C does not burn the foam or does it give out toxic
fumes or any nauseating smell.

| THE 200ºC
TEMPERATURE TEST OF BAKING THE STYROFOAM |
| Setting
the temperature of baking the foam at 200ºC |
| |
| Baking
at 200ºC for 15 minutes will give a plastic smell that is
not as nauseating as burning smell of the polymer clay at the
same baking temperature. No black smokes or toxic smell but the
surface is slightly melted. |
On observation the surface
it was slight melted. From the size of 40 mm x 38 mm (1.5 inches
x 1 3/8 inches) it had shrunk to a size of 15 mm x 13 mm ( 5/8
inch x 4/8 inch).
I do not recommend anyone
to bake Styrofoam above the 130º C temperature.
This 200ºC temperature
test is to prove that the Styrofoam will not burnt and without
combustion there will not be any TOXIC FUMES.
